Keeping the Lines of Communication Open

When keeping the lines of communication open is important to you and your organization, you want to know that the cables carrying your data are up to the job. In today’s high-tech environment, communications and data equipment are more important than ever. If the hardware that carries your data from one place to the next breaks down, the repercussions can be devastating to your organization. Fortunately, Calmont Wire & Cable can create a custom communication cable for whatever application you need.

Environmental

Does your situation call for protection against abrasion? Are your communication cables likely to be exposed to corrosive or reactive chemicals? What temperatures will they be exposed to? The beauty of custom communication cables is that they can be made to withstand any environmental factors needed. Rather than settling for cables that are made for general applications, you can be sure that your lines of communication are made to withstand the challenges they are most likely to face.

Shielding

Interference from other electronic devices can wreak havoc on your communications equipment if they lack the proper shielding. Signal interference can be as problematic for your communications as a severed cable. If your system is complex and transports a lot of data, custom cabling is the way to go.

Custom Communication Cable

Customization goes beyond protection, however. Wire gauges can be made to meet your specific needs. Conductor counts and twisted pairs can also be made in any configuration best suits you. Fiber optic cable, Ethernet, and telecom cable are just a few of the wide variety of communication cables available. Transferring data is crucial to almost every industry and organization around. With custom communication cable, you can make sure that your organization is prepared.

Exploring the “Cosmos” with Custom Wire

Cosmos

Here at Calmont, we have been working with NASA, JPL, the European Space Agency, Lockheed, L-3, and many other space exploration and aerospace organizations for many years. So you can imagine how excited we were to witness the reboot of one of the all-time great space exploration shows: “Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey.”

Last Sunday, host Neil deGrasse Tyson picked up where science luminary and host of the original series Carl Sagan left off. Beginning with a discussion of our cosmic address, our relative place in the universe, Tyson then took viewers on a journey across time and space in the iconic Ship of the Imagination.

Combining breathtaking video and digital renderings of the cosmos and dramatizations of historical events, the series is introducing a whole new generation to the wonders of science and space exploration. We hope this show inspires more young people to pursue careers in science and technology, taking the human race to the next frontier and beyond. After all, we provide the wire that helps keep satellites in orbit; without new advances in space exploration, who would we provide custom wire to?

We could just imagine producing the custom wire for the Ship of the Imagination. With our aerospace wire – which provides reduced weight, increased strength, smaller gauge, flexibility, and purity – we have been outfitting aircraft, spacesuits, satellites, and other advanced aerospace equipment for years. And we couldn’t be prouder to contribute to the continuing advancement of human knowledge, at least in our own small way.

Cable Purity and Audio Fidelity

High quality sound is not just the most important thing for the professional audio industry; it’s the only thing. The best recording and output equipment is important, but all your money may be wasted if your cables are of inferior quality. That’s why it’s so important to understand the value of truly pure copper wire.

High purity forms of copper wire, usually referred to as four-nines or six-nines copper wire, indicate that the copper is free from impurities. Four-nines copper is 99.99% pure copper, whereas six-nines is 99.9999% pure. Copper is an unparalleled conductor of electricity. The purer it is, the less likely you are to have interference with your quality audio.

Calmont Wire & Cable produces the highest quality copper audio wire available on the market today. Six-nines copper wire is unequaled when it comes to pure audio fidelity. In addition, it performs at optimum capacity even in the coldest temperatures. This is especially good news if you need to run wires outdoors. The best pro audio technicians use the best pro audio equipment. And six-nines copper wire is the best being produced today.

Fiber Optics vs. Copper Wires

Long ago, people rely on copper wires to transmit messages over the landline phones. Recent developments in technology linked to communication have resulted to the conception of fiber optic cables. It has proved itself to be more convenient to use as compared to copper wires and are being used by many homes and companies worldwide.

Optical fibers are strands of glass that the telecommunication industry uses to transmit signals in the form of light. When bundled, the optical fibers become an optical fiber cable which can be classified into two: single mode cables and multi-mode cables. The single mode cables use laser lights to transmit signals while the multi-mode cables employ light emitting diode.

Aside from being used for phone calls, optical fibers are also widely and conventionally used for internet signals and television imaging among others. Here is a list of reasons why fiber optics is preferable over copper wire:

1)     Fire Hazard Free.
Compared to copper wires, there is no possibility for the fiber cables to start a fire since there is no electricity that passes through the cables.

2)     Safer
Since the fiber optics uses light instead of electricity, one no longer has to fear for the possibility of electric shock.

3)     Weight
Fiber optics is comparably lighter and takes less space on the ground than with copper wires which requires large heavy posts.

4)     Technological Enhancement
One of the things that the fiber optics can do but the copper wires can’t is its ability to carry digital information over the internet or computer networks.

5)     Cheaper Power Consumption
Gone are the days of spending huge chunks of money over copper wires. Since signals emitted by fiber optics degrade less, it no longer requires high voltage electrical transmitters.

6)     No Signal Interference
Remember the days when you could hear someone else’s conversation over the phone without calling them. Well, with fiber optics, chances of someone else listening on your conversation is omitted. Light signal from fiber optics do not interfere with one another the way signals transmitted through copper wires do.

7)     Less Signal Degradation
The possibility of losing signal over fiber optics is lower as compared to copper wires.

8)     Portability
Since fiber optic cables are lighter and takes less space, they can easily fit on crowded and even small places. They can be transported easily and are less bulky.

9)     Higher Capacity
Since the optical fibers are thinner, they can transmit a larger amount of information from one point to another. This allows for more phone lines over the same channel or cable.

10)  Cheaper
Who wouldn’t want to save on money? Several miles of fiber optics are cheaper as compared to copper wires which require lots of money just to be installed.

With all the pros of fiber optics we have shared, it’s not a wonder why most establishments use this over other alternatives.

The Importance of Custom-Wiring Your Home

Considering how fast-paced technology is nowadays, it is very important to take actions on how you and your house can cope up. You might want that top-of-the-line 3D LED or that high-quality home theater, but not having the proper aid will get you nowhere. If you want to build a tech-savvy home, you have to make sure that it is capable to host the most advanced appliances. One way to do it is through pre-wiring.

What is pre-wiring?
Pre-wiring is the process of installing a detailed wiring plan inside you house’s floors, walls, and ceilings where you can connect your appliances. These wires pass low-voltage electric signals to the said appliances. Pre-wiring is a fast becoming necessity in every home.

Why is pre-wiring important?
Pre-wiring your home will make sure that it is adaptable to the ever-changing technology trends. Imagine having your whole house capable of audio and video systems, letting you watch your favorite shows or listen to your favorite tunes at every corner of your residence.

It is also helpful for installing security features and systems when crime-proofing your home. Unlike old wiring systems, structured wirings today are compatible for almost all kinds of appliances; that’s why you don’t have to use various types for different equipment. Another factor to consider is the placement of the outlets. You have to make sure that the outlets are properly placed and are easily accessible at all parts of the house.

When to pre-wire?
The best time to pre-wire is when you are still in the process of building your home. Installing wires once your walls and floors are done beats the purpose of readying your home for your future electronic devices. If you are planning to pre-wire, you have to make sure that you have reviewed your floor plan, so you can easily identify where the wires will be put. When doing this, you also have to consider the placement of your electronics. The best way to deal with this is seeking a professional’s help.

Wired vs. Wireless
Although wireless is preferred by most people, wired systems are still advisable if you are looking for a more reliable and stable connection. Wireless connections tend to get weak, especially when a house has plaster and stone interiors. For a stable performance, wired is the path to take.

Preparing your home for current innovations and future ones is very important. This is a long-term investment that allows your house to be flexible for upcoming advancement in technology. Not only does pre-wiring ease former functions, it also effectively increases your home’s value. Lastly, wired systems help you achieve an aesthetically-functional house that you can be proud of.
